Bermuda Hundred UMC Missions

On Friday, June 25th our church helped Virginia State University to feed the homeless at Third Baptist Church located in Petersburg. This is a program that is under the direction of Downtown Churches United Feeding Ministries. There will be more information in the August newsletter. I would like to thank everyone who volunteered to help.

Peace be with you,
Ann McNinch, Missions Chair

Bermuda Hundred Helps with CARITAS

Bermuda Hundred provided support for the week-long visit of CARITAS at Chester United Methodist. CARITAS is an acronym for Churches Around Richmond To Assure Shelter. CARITAS provides shelter and meals for homeless families and single men and women.  Our church lent a helping hand to our brothers and sisters at Chester United Methodist by assisting with the setting up of cots and tables and checking in food contributions.  We also provided bag lunches for the families served through this ministry.

If you would like to know more about CARITAS check it out on-line or call Katie Sloan.  There are other churches in the Chester area who participate in this amazing ministry. With that in mind, there will be other opportunities to help in the future. Continue to pray for the homeless and those who provide for their needs in such kind and generous ways.

Welcome to one of the easiest mission works you could possibly partake in - Our Daily Bread Food Pantry.  There are many people that go hungry each day, and Our Daily Bread Food Pantry serves thousands of people every year right here in our own community.  There are several ways that we can participate in this important mission work, and one of them seems to be customer made for Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Church.

First, you will notice that each week there will be several items listed in our bulletin that are needed by the food pantry.  This is what makes this so easy; you don't have to give it much thought for it is listed for you.  All you need to do is, on a normal shopping trip, just pick up one or several of the items listed and drop it into the collection tote. It's that easy!

The second way is the one that seems custom-made for us.  One item that is used extensively by the food bank is baby food jars.  Portions of items such as ketchup, mustard, and so forth are put into baby food jars for distribution to families. What makes this custom-made is that we have been blessed with many births in the last two years and surely we have an ample supply of baby food jars.  Just bring in the empty jars, along with the lids, and place them into the collection tote located outside of the sanctuary.

Both of the methods described above are simple ways to have an impact on the important mission of feeding the hungry.  If we simply take a small step and allow Our Lord to increase it and bless it the work will be sufficient.

Thank you for serving the Lord and one another,

Glen Mitteer
